Free Cycles provides bikes, parts and help to those in need. Programs include a free and open community shop, checkout bikes, pedal technology, pedal education, BikeWell and an annual Festival of Cycles. Free Cycles formed in 1996 primarily to place free-roaming green bikes on Missoula's street corners. The green bikes evolved to 7 other bike programs, and later spurred the Missoula Institute for Sustainable Transportation (MIST).
