History

In May of 2008, four friends merged with dreams of bicycles and the excitement of one day running a community bicycle shop and since that day our dream has evolved into an ever expanding community shop. In the beginning, we had a portable bike stand, a small set of tools, and some milk crates full of parts that fit neatly into an unused garage at a friends house. During the next few months we worked feverishly repairing and refurbishing old bikes. As time passed and through numerous donations and benefits, our inventory grew considerably prompting the move to our current location near Peoples Park in the Hilltop district of Tacoma. As our operating location improved and through the continued support of friends and volunteers, we have been able to run a small community shop where we work to keep people on the road. At present, we provide the tools and workspace for people to wrench on their own peddle powered machines. We feel that by providing this service, community members are more able to enjoy and use their bicycle as a means of transportation while cutting maintenance cost and encouraging the acquisition of a new skill set. We maintain a small library for patrons to flip through as well as the free flowing dissemination of information from any of the fine volunteers. We also sell new brake pads, cables, a variety of different inner tubes as well as used parts and bicycles that would otherwise be headed for the waste stream. We do this at affordable prices to provide accessibility for the entire community. This is a space for the novice and the experienced to take bicycle maintenance into their own hands.
