The vampire system, believed to have been coined by the Bicycle Kitchen in Los Angeles, CA, is a viral method of recruiting volunteers whereby an existing volunteer turns other unsuspecting victims into volunteers as well. This system is also used by vampires to turn unsuspecting victims into fellow vampires, hence the name.
