History

The BikeAthens BRP began in 2001 as a small group of friends in a garage, fixing bikes for the homeless in Athens. Years later, after occupying a storage unit, then an unconditioned warehouse space, we now have a 900 square-foot heated and cooled shop with a bathroom as well as a 2000 square-foot storage area. Thousands of volunteers have passed through the shop, most of whom started as novices and left with at least a few bike repair skills. In 2008 we added a third weekly 2.5 hour work session, and in 2012 we added a women-only work session. In 2016, we moved to 1075 W Broad St. We fix bikes for sale and donation. We offer sliding scale repairs and a weekly Fix Your Own Bike night where anyone can get help with their bike.

In 2022, we received a grant from REI to purchase a retired FED EX van to bring a mobile shop to more places and events.

In the summer of 2023, our landlord terminated our lease forcing us to move to our current location. We hope to reopen to the public in December 2023 or early January 2024. In the meantime we are handling clients and customers by appointment.
