If you need to use the truing stand to true, clean, lube, or despoke a wheel, there are two important things to remember. The first is to make sure the axle gets into the slots properly and that the wheel gets into the right place. Check once you get it in that the stand is pressing up against the locknuts and that the axle is down in the slots. The second is to not overtighten. Just turn the knob until it holds the wheel in place, not until you can't turn it anymore.
