Recycle-A-Bike (RAB) is a volunteer-based community organization, and 501(c)(3) non-profit, that connects people with refurbished bikes, provides practical bike knowledge, and advocates bicycle use by safer, more confident cyclists.

Recycle-A-Bike operates out of a shop space at 12 Library Court in the Olneyville section of Providence, RI. RAB also provides some instruction on location at various Providence public schools, and offers bike valet services for events in the Providence area.

History

Recycle-A-Bike has been active in Providence since 2000. Working out of various spaces around Providence including a church basement and the Steel Yard, RAB moved in to its current space in Olneyville in 2011. RAB was granted 501(c)3 status in 2012. Since its founding, RAB has provided open shops several days a week. Past programs have included shipping repaired bikes to Liberia and Gambia, repair classes for refugees living in RI, and classes for middle school students offered through the Providence After School Alliance.

Services Offered

RAB currently offers an open shop 2 days a week, Tues. 5-8pm and Sat. 10am-2pm. A six week build-a-bike class is offered several times a year. RAB sells refurbished bikes, and accepts donations of old bikes and parts.
