There are different types of brakes. Use the information below to determine which type you are using before continuing to the correct section.

  • Caliper Brakes are also known as side pull, have the cable on one side of the brake, and both brake arms pivot about a central bolt. Examples
  • Cantilever Brakes are easily identified by the upside-down "Y" created by their cables. The open end of the "Y" hovers above the tire. Examples
  • V Brakes only use one cable, which connects through one brake pad to another, across the wheel. Examples
  • Disc Brakes are identified by a metal discs around the hub of the front and rear wheels. Examples
